John Frizzell

Frizzell began his career working in documentary films for TVOntario in concert with the legendary Christa Singer.  After 4 years as Associate Producer/Director on the series A Different Understanding, Frizzell joined friends, Niv Fichman, Barbara Sweete and Larry Weinstein to found Canadian Production company, Rhombus Media Inc.  He left Rhombus in the mid-eighties to pursue a career writing theatrical fiction.   His first endeavour was the Gemini-nominated I Love A Man In A Uniform for CBC’s anthology For The Record. Following were a trio of award winning scripts for Atlantis Films’ Sons And Daughters and a two-year stint as creator/showrunner of Atlantis’ first prime-time series, Airwaves.

Other credits include Getting Married In Buffalo Jump, the final season of the series Material World and theatrical features; On My Own, (script nominated for an Australian Academy Award, and winner of Best Actress for Judy Davis), and Memory, (John Hurt and Marthe Keller).  He co-wrote the acclaimed, Life With Billy with Judith Thompson, and with Don McKellar, Dance Me Outside, for Bruce Macdonald and Norman Jewison.  He was creator/showrunner of the CBC spinoff series The Rez.  Additional credits include Twitch City, Lucky Girl, (Winner of  Writer’s Guild, 2002, Best Teleplay).  He was also a co-creator of DeCode’s animated series Angela Anaconda, (International Emmy).
